Here’s the Plan

So we are currently experiencing a prolonged flatspell - not exactly what you hope for on a surf trip. There is speculation of a small groundswell moving from the South towards our area in the next week, however, this is quite a ways away and reports made in advanced can be altered at any time depending on the weather conditions and so forth. With the current plan being that we stay at our current location, San Pedrito, until midweek and then make our way a little North to Punta Conejo, where we will once again reunite with the notorious Kelso.

After all this time on the road, we have made a large dent in our food supply, except for our 50-pound bag a rice of course (we ate a significant amount though). After calculating an estimated time of stay here in Baja, we’ve come to the conclusion that we will just have enough food to last us until our departure. But in case we run out, there is always rice and Ramon (our last case scenario backup backup food). We try to minimize weekly trips to the local markets to pick up a few things here and there, but at some times we just can’t resist. Our oatmeal ran out a week ago, so now we are starting our days off with delicious pancakes, that, according to the box, is just add water. Everything else is great though. Ant and I are healthy and well; just awaiting that epic day of barrels. Although there hasn’t been the most ideal conditions lately, we have been bodysurfing, and swimming everyday.

The other night has Anthony and I just started eating our dinner meal, we spot a bunch of fishermen going crazy by the shore. We look up and there must of been thousands of fish just going bonkers in the sea. We are talking about frantic fish just swimming around and jumping out of the water like it was some kind of Olympic event. As soon as we spot this phenomenon, we grabbed the pole and headed down to the water to test our skills, and our luck. After much time of our lure getting caught on the rocks, and our countless casts returning fishless, we decided to give up and return to our already made meal. Maybe next time.

We have some photos of the past couple of days. It’s not much but they are definitely worth checking out. Thanks for keeping up with us . Stay stoked and smile…always!

Another Day in Paradise

Hey all. Here at our usual spot of Cerritos, the surf has been on a downward cycle, but there is a nice south swell brewing which should hit us around the weekend producing at least head-high surf. We don’t really have a general idea of when we are leaving, but we are not really concerned - being of that’s how things work down here. We live by the words of: when the waves depart, so shall we. There is a small group of friends down here that are planning a little convoy up to a spot called Punta Conejo, which is 2 hours north of our very location. The plan at the moment is to meet them up there when the time is right to share surf, stories, and good times. We have no clue how the internet situation will be like up there, so enjoy the frequent updates while you can. We’ve just put up a couple more pictures in the gallery, so be sure to check those out while you can. We’re off to find some shade, so stay healthy and stay good.

We’ve Struck Gold

Whats up people! Ant and I are currently sitting in the Cerritos bar/restaurant updating as usual, but we are no longer camping here. Three days ago we moved base camp to San Pedrito RV Park. The RV park is no longer open and is advertised for sale. The place is relatively deserted and we surf with 1 or 2 other guys a day. We are camped right in front of the beach where a set of old cabins used to be. We have turned the empty concrete and palms into our home. We attached our shade tarp to its palm overhang, we set tents and mattresses up underneath it, we have a designated kitchen area, as well as a clothesline for all of our wet items.

The surf has been pretty consistent - ranging from chest high to about 2-foot overhead. The main downside of this place is that the wave break over a sometimes shallow rock-reef which can be sketchy and brutal to our bodies and boards. But overall it usually works out for the best and we are having a blast camping out at our new spot. We should be there for a while more and frequently making trips to Cerritos to update photos and videos.

We have added some photos, so go to the gallery and check them out. You can see the visual of what we’ve been trying to explain.

Happy Belated July 4th to all

July 5th. We are currently still in Cerritos. Although we are camping in the same spot our surroundings have changed drastically. Yesterday as we awoke in the morning heat we spotted an old blue Ford pick-up/camper. Next to the truck were three extremely familiar looking dogs. Kelso, Melissa, and John had made their way back into our lives by some twist of fate. We approached them and asked them what happened knowing that their original plans were to head to Punta Conejo which is about three hours north of here. Kelso began his tale with “It all started with a bottle of Tequila”…It was good to have him back.

Camped next to us is a older man named Chris who intends to spend his time in Baja until his funds run dry. He lives in his camper-truck and resembles somewhat of a castaway as he walks around most of the day with a pair of worn out khaki colored pants and a button down shirt. He has an untamed beard, hair like straw, and a love for Mexico, making him a great neighbor. He intends to head north where he can live in even more solitude.

Last night two guys from Oregon showed up and camped right behind us. They made the trek in a VW bus and are on a mission to find jobs in Cabo, quite different from the lifestyle of Chris. Ron has grown up in California and Oregon and surfed all his life. He has lived in Hawaii and loves to talk surf. Bill, well Bill according to Ron is the designated beer drinker; he is along to share the good times. They will most likely be camped next to us for a couple of days then they plan to make it to their final destination in Cabo.

Last night all of us on all different journey’s shared a beer and stories to celebrate the 4th.

We hope everyone had a fun and safe fourth of July. We have stumbled upon some old videos and photos along with some new ones that will be updated. So enjoy!

**Mom…sorry about the profanity.

Here is a REALLL OLDD video from the Grand Canyon, but we found it and thought you guys should see it. Enjoy.

And here is another video update…

Cerritos

For lack of swell in Abreojos, we headed down south to Cerritos where we just had a waist to chest session and we are about to go out for another one in a few minutos.  We added images to our album, so enjoy….everything is well and there is some swell coming through.  We will let you know what’s going on later down the road.  Where we are has free internet for the cost of a beer (bummer…), so we will be in touch more often than lately. Stay in touch and stay stoked.
