Happy New Year

Hey all,

Brian and I would like to wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year. Heres a little quote to ponder as the ball is dropping…

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in.  A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” ~Bill Vaughan

More posts will be on the way as we are making more and more progress with El Wanderer (for those of you who dont know El Wanderer is the name of our bus)

Have fun tonight and lets all try to be optimists!

Brainstorm

November 19, 2006

The possibilities were endless - should we make one bed, two beds, 2 hammocks? What was the most efficient way to divide up the interior of the bus? Finally, we simplified things and decided that beds would be the best option. We figured since we are bringing a tent we can always use the beds as shelves and on the occasion that we do not camp we could in fact sleep in the bus. We decided to put one bed longways behind the driver seat under the windows and another directly parallel to that one. The bed behind the drivers seat would serve as a resting spot when on the road. While the bed place on the other side of the bus would be used primarily to store our surfboards which will be taking up the most space. The idea was clear in our minds, and the only thing left to do was start the construction.

The Big Purchase

September 29, 2006

Brian and I woke up and immediately went to the bank. The bus was $750, which was an unreal bargain. Before we knew it the money left our hands and we now held a circular ring of keys; it was ours. We started it up and drove it to my house where it would sit in the driveway. Brian and I glanced at each other in disbelief of what we had just done…this was going to be one hell of a time. We looked through the rear doors of the bus and without hesitation grabbed some tools and began to remove the seats. A couple of hours later the bus was completely empty and we sat in two lawn chairs to think about the work to come.

Merry Christmas

Hey you curious people. Merry Christmas to all, and we hope you had a wonderful Christmas and holiday. So in terms of bus work - we built two beds (one for us, and one for our boards) and we also built a shelving unit behind the driver’s seat. We’ll post more descriptive details on the construction and all that stuff soon enough, along with photos and videos. Just be patient.

Thanks

For Sale…

The sign sat in the window of a 1985 Chevy mini bus - for us that bus meant freedom, and we desired it more than anything.

The whole summer we spoke of buying that bus; saying that we would take an unimaginable trip, a pilgrimage to a promise land full of sun, surf, and siestas. The plan was to drive across the country into California and eventually down the Baja Peninsula. We didn’t know if the bus would make it, and we didn’t care. But whether we reached our destination with or without our 1985 Chevy, the plan was Baja or bust!

As September approached we finally decided to make our dreams real.
